This is Cariad, a mature French Bulldog, who arrived in our care as a stray. She is approximately 4-6 years old. Cariad sadly didn’t have the best start at life, she was severely neglected and came to us very thin. Since being in our care she is slowly gaining weight and trusting humans more. she is in great spirits! Cariad has a lot of love to give, she would benefit from a home where she is given the chance to flourish at her own pace. She is a lovely girl who loves a good old scratch and would benefit from having someone home most of the time to cater to her snuggly needs!
She would benefit from a home with breed specific knowledge or someone who has done research on the breed and is willing to commit to the daily maintenance of her face folds and skin to ensure she is kept healthy and comfortable. Once Cariad has settled and has established living in a home environment, we advise that she is enrolled into training classes to help build her confidence and develop her social skills further.
Cariad has been lucky enough to spend time in a lovely foster home, he foster parents have said:
Cariad loves nothing more than affection/attention from her humans. She would happily sit on your lap at any and every opportunity! If you stop scratching her, she will nudge your hand with her face to indicate that you should keep going.
She loves her food so you have to be mindful of leaving food lying around and not letting her have access to the bins. She’s recently got a lot better with her sickness and is rarely sick after eating/drinking. However, she is almost always sick on walks so you have to keep walks to a short distance/time to mitigate this from happening. She is great with meeting new people and kids. If they come to the house she treats them as another opportunity for affection. She isn’t a fan of being left alone initially and can be a little vocal but she soon warms up and settles down to sleep. I have left her for up for 5 hours and she’s been great. She hasn’t destroyed anything at all in the house. She has the odd toilet accident in the house but not often at all. She sleeps overnight in a crate with no trouble at all. She loves going out and bounces like a kangaroo at the door when she knows we’re going out. She also gets very excited when you come back after leaving her alone and she’ll greet you with a gift of whatever she can find lying around (a shoe, a toy, even the tv remote control). She still needs to learn that dogs are friends and doesn’t need a barking match every time she sees one. She also travels well in the car. Cariad is definitely a companion dog more than an adventurous dog.
